About the Shaindy Rudoff Graduate Program in Creative Writing

Shaindy Rudoff

The Shaindy Rudoff Graduate Program in Creative Writing is a magnet for English-speaking Israelis, as well as Jews and non-Jews from around the world. The two-year Program, housed in the Department of English at Bar-Ilan University, offers an MA in English Literature with specializations in Literary Fiction, Poetry or Creative Nonfiction. We also offer a new track in Literary Translation.

Faculty are devoted to student progress, even as they are active writers and scholars. The program is directed by Dr. Ilana Blumberg and standing faculty include the novelists, essayists, and poets Evan Fallenberg, William Kolbrener, Michael Kramer, Marcela Sulak, and Linda Zisquit. Our current visiting faculty member is Dalia Rosenfeld. The program is named for its inspirational founder, Shaindy Rudoff, whose family honors her memory in this deeply meaningful way.

Located on the outskirts of Tel Aviv and only an hour's bus ride from Jerusalem, Bar-Ilan University enjoys a diverse student body. Students in the Program range in age from 21-71 and come from all over the world. Though the Program explores the long tradition between Judaism and writing, there are no ideological agendas, only the pursuit of good writing. Our students and visiting writers often experience their time in the Program as a life-changing period. The Program organizes annual conferences and sponsors informal gatherings with writers in Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv.

We offer merit scholarships and two annual prizes, one in poetry and one in nonfiction.

We accept applications to the program from February 1-June 30.
